Q - What is the difference between karate and taekwondo?
A - Though both taekwondo and karate feature blocks, strikes, punches, and kicks, taekwondo generally places greater emphasis on kicking techniques over hand techniques. Our particular style, KangDukWon, also includes many of the long, flowing moves of Chinese quan fa (kung fu).

Q - At what age may a child begin training?
A - We recommend children start at about age 6 or 7.

Q - How expensive is it to train at Muskegon Taekwondo?
A - Our low overhead means we are able to keep our rates remarkably affordable, and you have the opportunity to reduce your costs even more by the way to choose to pay. We have family rates as well. In keeping with Grandmaster Stolberg's beliefs, we don't want a serious student's financial situation to keep them from training, and we will work with you to create a payment plan to fit your budget.

Q - I have health limitations. Can I still train?
A - We all have health limitations (or will someday). The point of training is to make the best use of the capabilities we have, so aside from the usual admonishment to seek the advice of your physician before starting any new exercise program, we can usually find a way for you to train around most health issues.

Q - How do I get started?
A - Feel free to come in and watch a class first if you like, or just show up and jump right in.

Q - What should I wear to my first class?
A - Shorts and a T-shirt are fine for your first two weeks. Afterward, a dobok (uniform) is included free with a 6- or 12-month membership.

Q - When will I "own the night"?
A - Never. All the training in the world can't make you invincible. That's the bad news. The good news is that nobody else out there is invincible either. That's why it just makes sense for us to all get along as best we can without having to resort to violence.
Frequently Asked Questions
To be successful in the practice of the martial arts requires serious commitment. Before you make that commitment, we want you to have a thorough understanding of what training at Muskegon Taekwondo is like. Take two weeks to work out with our instructors, try different classes and class times, sample instruction in traditional taekwondo, sport taekwondo, self-defense, and fitness. Once you do, we're confident you'll want to join our taekwondo family on the training floor.
